We all have certain recordings that influenced our development as drummers. Here are five of MANY influential grooves that had a huge impact on me as a developing drummer. The drummers whose examples I chose were Bill Bruford, Richie Hayward, Jim Keltner, James Gadson, and Bernard Purdie. There were many more, but I decided to draw only from what’s left of my vinyl records, therefore limited my options. That made deciding much easier.
